This is from a autoblog tour of the GM Tonawanda Engine plant and this is the report from the robot that tests the engine blocks to make sure they are within tolerance. I just love how the guy is pointing to the smiley face and imagine him saying "Oh good here is the smiley face...this means it's good."

lol, the pointing is what gets me also, i can see him just thinking to himself "ah yes, a happy face, very well then.."

exactly! It is still making me giggle. It must be suspensful waiting for the machine to print out the "Good Smiley Report." He picks it up and just stares at it for a minute before pointing to the smile and saying in a heavy deep breathy tone "ah yes, a happy face, very well then.."

If I programmed it, the overall QC variances would add up so a bigger smile indicated closer fit to tolerance. SCIENTIFICALLY SIGNIFICANT SMILEY
